CIMA registration is not a rule for every company
The Directors Registration and Licensing Act applies to defined covered entities. CIMA guidance includes relevant regulated mutual funds and specified securities-investment business entities. The rules can apply to directors regardless of whether they live in Cayman.
Do not assume that every private fund, partnership or ordinary exempted company is covered simply because it is Cayman-based. Classification must be checked against current legislation. The statutory term professional director also has a specific meaning under the Act; it is not merely a label for anyone paid to sit on a board.
