Xavion Capital/Insight/US Banking From Singapore
Banking & Payment Rails

Access US banking from Singapore through a US LLC.

Singapore has some of the best banking in Asia if your business has real substance here. If your directors sit elsewhere, your customers are all American, or your vertical sits outside mainstream appetite, the same system becomes slow and selective. A US LLC gives you US-domestic rails for US revenue without arguing about substance.

Banking & Payment RailsFounders in SingaporeUS LLC Formation
Short answer

Can a founder in Singapore open a US business bank account?

Yes. Singapore-based founders form a US LLC and onboard remotely at US institutions — one to three weeks at a payment institution, four to ten at a chartered bank. The reason is rarely lack of banking: it is that US customers pay by ACH and card on US rails, and Singapore accounts receive those flows as cross-border, with worse pricing and more friction.

  • Why founders here do it: US-domestic ACH and card acquiring plus a USD relationship that is not contingent on demonstrating Singapore substance.
  • Who we see most: SaaS and deep-tech founders, fund managers and family offices, commodity and trading firms, Web3 companies, and regional holding structures with US customer bases.
  • Realistic timeline: Six to twelve weeks from decision to first received payment; the IRS EIN is usually the long pole at four to eight weeks without a US SSN.

What Singapore does well, and where it stops

For a Singapore company with local directors, local staff and a coherent regional business, account opening is straightforward and the banking is genuinely world-class. That is the profile Singapore's system is built for, and MAS-supervised institutions do it better than almost anyone.

The friction appears at the edges. Companies with non-resident directors and a nominee-heavy structure face extended onboarding and questions about substance. Verticals with elevated risk profiles — digital assets, gaming, forex, high-volume consumer e-commerce — encounter narrow and shifting appetite; the licensing regimes here are clear, but being licensed elsewhere does not automatically make you bankable here. And even for a clean file, receiving American revenue into a Singapore account is a cross-border transaction: FX on the way in, no ACH, and card acquiring priced as international.

So the question for most Singapore founders is not 'can I bank here'. It is 'why am I paying cross-border economics on revenue that is entirely domestic to the United States'.

If every customer is American, running that revenue through a Singapore account means paying cross-border economics on a domestic flow.

What the US leg adds

Three concrete things. ACH: US businesses expect to pay by ACH, and to be able to be debited for subscriptions and invoices. A US account and routing number removes an objection from every US enterprise deal. US card acquiring: domestic interchange, better approval rates, and processors that understand your model. And USD held as USD, converted to SGD on your schedule rather than at the moment of receipt.

There is a commercial argument too. A US LLC is a counterparty a US procurement team can onboard without an exception: W-9, US address, US bank details. For founders selling into US mid-market and enterprise, that alone shortens sales cycles.

None of this is a tax play. Singapore's territorial system, the foreign-sourced income rules and the substance expectations attached to incentives are their own analysis, and adding a US entity can create US filing duties — Form 5472 with a pro-forma 1120 for a foreign-owned single-member LLC, plus any state obligations. Model it with an adviser rather than assuming.

Who benefits most

SaaS and deep-tech companies selling into the US see the fastest return: ACH collection, US acquiring, and a payable-to entity enterprise buyers accept without escalation.

Trading and commodity firms use the US leg for USD settlement depth and to reduce dependence on a single correspondent chain. Fund managers and family offices use it for custody and payment relationships that diversify jurisdictional risk rather than concentrate it.

Web3 and digital-asset businesses are the most constrained group in Singapore and the most in need of matched institutions. The route exists but the file is heavier: entity and ownership documentation, wallet and exchange records, AML policy, monitoring arrangements, named compliance staff, and where relevant, evidence of licensing. Applying blind to mainstream US institutions and collecting declines makes the eventual match harder to place.

Execution and timelines

Form the LLC, file the EIN the same week — without a US SSN it is four to eight weeks and it gates everything else. Build the file while it is pending: formation certificate, operating agreement, EIN letter, registered agent confirmation, passports and proof of address for all beneficial owners and signatories, ACRA documents for any related Singapore entity, and evidence of the operating business including existing bank statements.

Then the written business narrative: what you sell, who pays, from where, in what size, at what frequency, and where the money goes next. Singapore founders tend to have unusually good documentation, which is an advantage — use it rather than sending a minimal pack and answering questions later.

A payment institution typically opens in one to three weeks post-EIN; a chartered bank in four to ten. Card acquiring runs in parallel. Six to twelve weeks from decision to first received payment is a realistic plan, and two structurally different rails is the minimum sensible endpoint.

Send the complete file first. Answering compliance questions one at a time is how a three-week onboarding becomes three months.

How Xavion runs it end to end

Assessment: ownership and residency, what the business does, who pays it and from where, volumes, average ticket, sector, and how any Singapore entity fits. We tell you whether US banking is realistic, which institutions match, and where the risk sits — before anything is filed.

Execution: formation, EIN, registered agent, operating agreement; banking file prepared to institutional standard including intercompany and source-of-funds documentation; submission to institutions whose stated appetite fits; and management of the compliance dialogue through to opening. Then rail-stack design and ongoing compliance, including annual state reporting and Form 5472 where applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can already bank in Singapore. Why would I want a US account?

Because US revenue is domestic to the US. A US account gives you ACH in and out, US card acquiring at domestic interchange, and USD held as USD. Singapore receives the same flows as cross-border, with FX on receipt and international acquiring pricing.

Can a Singapore resident open a US business account remotely?

Yes, through a US LLC with an EIN and a prepared compliance file. Licensed payment institutions onboard remotely in one to three weeks; chartered banks take four to ten and occasionally want a US-based signatory.

Does a US LLC create US tax for a Singapore founder?

Not automatically. A foreign-owned single-member LLC is generally a disregarded entity, and US liability depends on whether income is effectively connected to a US trade or business. Filing duties still apply, including Form 5472 with a pro-forma 1120. Confirm your position with an adviser; this is general information, not tax advice.

Will this affect my Singapore company's tax treatment?

It can affect where contracts, receipts and activity sit, which is exactly what Singapore's territorial rules and incentive substance requirements look at. Structure it with a Singapore adviser rather than retrofitting an explanation later.

Do I need to keep my Singapore entity?

Usually yes. The common structure is the Singapore entity for regional operations and local banking, the US LLC for US-facing revenue and rails, with documented intercompany agreements so both institutions see a consistent picture.

My company is in digital assets. What changes?

Institution matching becomes the entire exercise, and the file is heavier: ownership documentation, wallet and exchange records, AML policy, transaction monitoring and named compliance personnel. Mainstream US institutions will decline, and declines are recorded.

What is the realistic timeline?

One to five business days to form, four to eight weeks for the EIN without a US SSN, one to three weeks at a payment institution or four to ten at a chartered bank. Plan six to twelve weeks end to end.
