International business accounts for Australian founders

Australian founder needing overseas business banking? Free Xavion review for foreign entities, USD/EUR/GBP payments and documented crypto business flows.

Australian founders selling overseas can need more than an ordinary domestic account: foreign-currency collections, supplier payments, an account for a foreign company, or a provider willing to assess documented crypto activity. Xavion reviews these business cases free and points you toward a suitable institution. We are an adviser, not an account-issuing bank; any paid placement work is agreed separately.

This page is for Australian-based owners with international operating needs. It is not a personal offshore savings offer or a comparison of everyday Australian bank accounts. An overseas company or account is not, by itself, a tax solution.

Short answer

Can Australian founders get international business accounts?

Potentially, if the institution accepts the entity, Australian-resident owners and the business activity. Xavion reviews those facts together with the required payments. There is no universal approval rule.

  • Do I need an offshore company to receive foreign-currency payments: Not necessarily. First establish whether your current company can use a suitable multi-currency account.
  • Can you review a US LLC owned by an Australian resident: Yes. Send the LLC’s activity, ownership, existing banking or refusal, and intended currencies. An EIN and formation certificate do not guarantee a provider will accept the owner’s residence or business model.
  • Will the account support AUD and crypto conversion: Those capabilities must be confirmed individually. USD/EUR/GBP banking does not automatically include local AUD payments. Crypto conversion or receipts need specific approval and supporting evidence.

Identify the entity that earns the revenue

An Australian company receiving overseas customer payments and an Australian resident operating a US LLC or BVI company are different account applications. Establish which entity signs contracts, issues invoices and owns the incoming funds. The receiving account should support that entity and its declared activity, not a different company chosen for convenience.

Describe whether operations are Australian, overseas or mixed. Registration, management and tax questions should be reviewed with your advisers. ASIC explains that a foreign company carrying on business in Australia must register, while an Australian subsidiary is a separate route. Owning a foreign company or opening an overseas account does not by itself settle whether registration is required.

Specify USD, EUR and GBP receiving needs—and what happens to AUD

If international buyers pay in USD or EUR, compare the receiving details, permitted payer countries, transfer networks and settlement timing—not just the list of balance currencies. Confirm whether account details are in the company’s name and whether platforms or customers will accept them. A foreign-currency account is not necessarily a domestic account in every currency it holds.

Plan the return path as well: retaining currency for overseas suppliers, converting to another currency, or sending permitted payments to Australia. Do not assume AUD local collections, domestic Australian payment routes or seamless transfers to an existing bank are included. Ask for confirmation of supported routes, FX costs, limits and beneficiary restrictions before moving funds.

Separate a foreign-entity problem from a crypto-policy problem

A US LLC owned by an Australian founder might be declined because of the owner’s residence, the entity’s evidence, the business activity, or a combination. Forming an LLC does not guarantee an account or remove a provider’s country restrictions. Bring the actual refusal notice and describe existing accounts and revenue history so the review starts from facts.

For crypto-related businesses, distinguish proprietary holdings and conversion from customer funds, exchange services and custody. Identify the relevant licensing or registration position with qualified advisers, the venues used, asset origin and intended fiat counterparties. An institution agreeing to a fiat operating account has not necessarily agreed to token receipts or conversion. Xavion assesses these requirements together but does not exchange assets itself.

Prepare commercial evidence for cross-border underwriting

An institution may request formation documents, ownership and signatory information, identity and address verification, contracts, invoices and expected transaction volumes. Explain the business connection between payer, contracting entity and beneficiary. For a new company, describe the planned trading model honestly rather than presenting projections as established revenue.

Trade businesses should be ready to explain goods, routes and counterparties; digital-service companies should connect collections to client agreements or platform statements. Treasury and holding-company payments need their own rationale. Requirements are provider-specific, and risk labels are not automatic acceptance categories. In the first Xavion enquiry, share a summary and approximate payment needs—not passports, full bank statements or private wallet credentials.

Keep Australian reporting obligations separate from account selection

The ATO describes how financial institutions identify reportable accounts under international information-exchange arrangements. Entity classification and controlling-person tax residence can affect what information is collected or reported. These institution obligations do not replace a founder’s or company’s tax-return responsibilities.

Do not treat an international account as hidden from Australian authorities or assume foreign incorporation removes Australian tax obligations. Obtain advice on your circumstances before changing the business structure. Our free consultation focuses on banking fit: who owns the business, where it operates, the account’s purpose and what the institution would need to assess. We explain realistic next steps without promising a particular bank, opening date or tax result.

Frequently asked

Business account questions

Can Australian founders get international business accounts?
Potentially, if the institution accepts the entity, Australian-resident owners and the business activity. Xavion reviews those facts together with the required payments. There is no universal approval rule.
Do I need an offshore company to receive foreign-currency payments?
Not necessarily. First establish whether your current company can use a suitable multi-currency account. Creating a foreign entity solely for banking can add registration and tax questions without resolving provider eligibility.
Can you review a US LLC owned by an Australian resident?
Yes. Send the LLC’s activity, ownership, existing banking or refusal, and intended currencies. An EIN and formation certificate do not guarantee a provider will accept the owner’s residence or business model.
Will the account support AUD and crypto conversion?
Those capabilities must be confirmed individually. USD/EUR/GBP banking does not automatically include local AUD payments. Crypto conversion or receipts need specific approval and supporting evidence.
Can New Zealand-based founders ask for a review too?
Yes. State New Zealand as the owners’ residence and give the company’s incorporation country. Eligibility and tax questions are assessed for that case, not assumed to be the same as Australia.
What does the free consultation include?
Xavion reviews your international account needs and points you toward a suitable institution where the case fits. Any subsequent paid work is agreed separately. We do not provide a guaranteed tax outcome.
